Brief History
|
The Word of Faith Church was founded October 2nd, 1988 in Vilnius, Lithuania. A handful of Christians from Pentecostals, Baptists and Catholic-charismatics gathered together with the vision of planting a new evangelical church, in which the gospel would be preached in Lithuanian (at the time there were practically no Lithuanian speaking evangelical churches). From the beginning our goal was to reach the unbelievers and unchurched rather than the believers from other churches. We experienced the authentic move of the Holy Spirit and the revival which resulted in hundreds of saved souls. In the span of several years hundreds of people mainly with non-religious backgrounds joined the church. On the one hand, the fall of the iron curtain and political changes contributed much to the rapid church growth. Yet on the other hand, a sincere search for personal relationship with God, authentic faith experience and passion in proclaiming the message of salvation to the unreached were no less important in bringing the gospel to the people. Evangelistic efforts were crowned with new churches born in almost all major cities of Lithuania. As time passed on, the Word of Faith Christian Fellowship developed uniting today as many as 33 churches in our nation. With 17 ordained pastors the WFCF is the second largest evangelical denomination (next to Lutherans) in Lithuania. |
